Behind this little Georgian church lies a story of loss, renewal and extraordinary creativity.
The present church was built in 1776. In October 1940, a wartime bomb caused devastating damage. The restored building became the setting for a remarkable collection of engraved glass.
St Nicholas also holds a connection to T. E. Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia. His funeral took place here in 1935; his grave lies in the separate cemetery a short walk down the lane.
